Wyoming Anonymous LLC: How It Actually Works for Non-Residents (2026)

Wyoming's anonymity isn't a hack — it's law. Here is exactly what stays private, what doesn't, and how to set it up correctly.

Published on 6 min readShare

Wyoming's LLC statute does not require disclosure of members or managers in public filings. That is the foundation. But the term "anonymous LLC" is often misunderstood — let's clarify what it does and doesn't mean.

What stays anonymous

  • State filings: Wyoming Secretary of State only lists the Registered Agent on public records. Your name does not appear.
  • Search results: A Google search for your name won't return your LLC. Only the LLC name and Registered Agent address are public.
  • Property purchases: When the LLC owns assets (cars, real estate, intellectual property), the LLC name appears, not yours.

What is NOT anonymous

  • Banking: Mercury, Stripe, the IRS all know who you are. You provide a passport to open accounts.
  • Lawsuit discovery: If sued, the LLC's owner can be subpoenaed.
  • FinCEN BOI report: As of 2024, the US Corporate Transparency Act requires LLC owners to report Beneficial Ownership Information to FinCEN within 90 days of formation. This info is NOT public — it's only visible to law enforcement and financial institutions doing KYC.
  • IRS: You file Form 5472 with your name and country.

So "anonymous" means "not on Google", not "untraceable to law enforcement". It is a privacy feature, not an evasion tool.

How to set it up correctly

  2. The Registered Agent (not you) is the public point of contact.
  3. We file the Articles of Organization without listing your name.
  4. You file the FinCEN BOI report (we send instructions) — confidential.
  5. Open your bank with your real identity (KYC).

Common misuse

Do NOT use Wyoming anonymity for:

  • Evading taxes (the IRS sees through it; FinCEN report blows it open)
  • Hiding from creditors (won't work in court — that's fraudulent transfer)
  • Identity theft / impersonation (felony)

DO use it for:

  • Public privacy (you don't want internet randos finding your business)
  • Asset protection (judgments harder to enforce against anonymous LLCs)
  • Brand separation (multiple businesses under different LLCs)

Wyoming vs other anonymous states

Only New Mexico, Delaware and Wyoming offer LLC anonymity:

  • New Mexico: Anonymous but no annual report ($0/year). Best for pure privacy at lowest cost.
  • Delaware: Anonymous via "series LLC" structures, $300/year franchise tax.
  • Wyoming: Anonymous + $60/year + best banking acceptance + strong charging order protection. Best overall.
